Louis's blog

Thanks to our sponsors, helpers and well-wishers

Louis - Fri, 2008-08-01 18:23

This will be the final blog entry for the Europeans championships 2008. I've managed to adjust back to the Irish way of life, the shops open in the early afternoon and getting dinner in before 10pm.

Firstly a big thanks to our sponsors Colm from I-canoe, Shane from Progressive Distribution, the lads at the Lucan Gazette, Tesco in Lucan for letting us have a bag packing day on the 28th of June which was a great success, everybody at the Irish Canoe Union especially Mick Scanlon and Anita Gordon for their help with accomodation booking and team registration for the event, the Irish Sports Council for funding the Irish Canoe Union, the Irish Government for funding the Irish Sports Council and you the Irish taxpayer for funding the whole lot!

2nd day of team training

Louis - Tue, 2008-07-22 21:47

Today was the second day of team training. People were getting more consistent with their moves although the water was slightly higher than the day before resulting in a smaller hole on surfers right and a larger one on surfers left.

It seems that this years' fad or "must have item" is the French carbon kevlar Gui-gui Prod boats. Everybody in one is doing very well on the feature throwing more agressive blunts that their plastic clad counterparts.

1st day of team training, team registers and Len finally gets here

Louis - Mon, 2008-07-21 21:12

Today saw the Irish freestyle team take to the water along with the French team. One hour to perfect the moves and runs which will be put into practice on Wednesday by the seniors and on Thursday by the juniors.

I myself worked on entry moves as some of the guys here are making them look so easy that I thought it would be a perfect time to get them down. Out of 5 attempts I stuck only one and with only one days' training left I'm not sure I'll be doing it in the competition as your 2 rides in the prelims are added together.
