no air
Hey all just wondering what peoples views are on breathing tubes in kayaks.
I saw them in Norway last year and just a bit surprised there not really used over here. Wouldn't it take that blind panic away from a paddler if they found themselves trapped snagged pinned or even getting their ass thrashed in a hole, or maybe even save a life. Even if it just gave the paddler that extra little bit of air till someone got to them or if it took away the panic so they could think a little more clearly (maybe) instead of when on their last breath fighting like a crazed lunny trying to get to the surface having done so myself on many occasion.

I'm not a skilled or experienced paddler and I can see the benefit of breathing tubes if your underwater and can't get out of your boat for some reason but how often does that happen?
My concern is that somebody gets thier boat stuck, can't get air, but could easily swim out but decides to stay in thier boat for a while, to try something.
Meanwhile the people paddling with them who can't really assume that thier friend upside down between a rock and hard place is getting air from his tube and they then put themselves in danger to rescue him?
There was a post here recently about somebody pissing past a mate who was pinned and that lad gave him the thumbs up to let him know there was no panic. If there hadn't been a thumbs up what would he have done next?
hey dave, not any more. the deck stays in place.
seemingly over in the states it can be attached to your boat and run up the outside of your buoyancy aid or come up the inside of your spray deck.
not sure bout that, two guys patient it and their theory was coming up the inside of the spray deck or drilling a hole in the boat and the tube coming out sealed with rubber washers. the mouthpiece having a a valve on it to stop water entering it. the one i saw is what you say about pulling the deck. the tube is going from the front of your seat back behind and into a sealed compartment, ideal in a pin situation.
