sarah, the sluice is on the liffey just above lucan, if you guys are running it itll mean people cant paddle it during the race.

   Sorry i'm not too in on the river scene i know i've paddled the boyne and the liffey but i dont really pay heed to the names that much i just let my instructor organise it..........

   Oh yeh and no idea bout the sluice thing... when i paddled the liffey i got in near the mc donalds in lucan but i didnt do the scout liffey descent last year cus i was too young........ and this year im away so im really anoyed! i vow i will try and do it next year!

Being sluice is a popular playspot its only good manners to let folks know your running a race through it so needless hours and petrol aren't wasted getting there not to paddle.

Seeing this is a forum that playboaters frequent maybe some one from the scouting organisation might stick up the details so as not to piss off other river users. Cheers

Hi all,

Im not involved in organising the race. I usually do rescue for it. -Though not this year, so Im not 100% on the details.

It starts at Leixlip, with juniors starting just above Lucan. There is usually enough water released for the chicken shoot at sluice, in this case competitors are directed not to shoot the sluice. If the release is not big enough, then... ummm I dont know. They might have to carry around the sluice. It woud be unusual for them to be told to shoot the sluice as part of the race as their paddling standards can be a bit dodgy.

   And also forgot to mention it in my last post! i'm a sea scout and am in a kayaking club with the ICU registered as a kayaking club but our kayaking club is made up of all scouts so i will know bout scout races and the such most of the time so i will try and post up when rivers are being used for races if i remember!
