Paddles as hand lugggage
Hi all,
Does anyone know if it is possible to carry paddles on an airplane as hand luggage? Im off to the states next month and was thinking about bringing back some new paddles. ...wont be worth it though if I have to pay the £120GBP to put them in the hold.

Yeah… stupid safety hazards…
Most airlines will only allow one piece of hand luggage, and at that within maximum length, breadth and width. Why not call your airline and ask them?
Can you not stow them as sport equipment? Aer Lingus for example allow 15kg of sporting equipment for €30 (€25 online).

Hi Eoin,
Paddles are specifically prohibited from being carried as hand luggage on most (if not all) airlines. I've read it before at heathrow and Gatwick on signs so not a winner if you're planning on going that way.
Enjoy the trip.

Hi all,
Thanks for your thoughts. I figured it out though... I have a large enough paddle bag that I can stuff my gear into it and use it as my normal hold luggage. If I pick up a paddle then it will fit in there with the rest of my gear and go in the hold at no extra charge.
Sweeet!

Don't know who you're flying with, but I flew back from San Francisco last year with a set of paddles. No extra cost.
Just told the airline (Air France) that I'd be coming back with a sports item.
Their regs on sporting items (to the best of recollection) are that it is to be less than 2m in length and you're total luggage allowance (23kg) isn't exceeded. Otherwise you've got to pay.
Good luck,
Robert
