Hey all well done on getting these dates out as soon as possible, cant wait to compete for next years Europeans! Just a rthought, does the clifden event have to be ran on the weekend before xmas? thios could pose quite a problem for travelling juniors etc as its a busy time for fanilies, im fine it wont affect me but i just thouhgt that i would give my 2 pence worth! Look forward to seeing you all soon

This is a fair point Neil, and it has definitely crossed our minds. The tides will not run again until march again in Clifden, so unfortunately this is our only option.

Any juniors with transport issues, please post up a message soon as possible so lifts can be organised.

Apologies for this unfortunate date!

True it's close to christmas...  ...but that also can be a good thing because it means some people are on holidays from work/school so the can go.

I hope to see yee all on the water.

I hope to make the events, but would also like to state so close to xmas does make it difficult.

Not to mind it means there are now 3 events in December with FleskJam also.( And two weekends now out of my organising schedule is a pain in the A )

It is understandable that the team needs to be picked ASAP and that Clifden may not be right again for quite sometime, but is this the final word on the comps?

Fair play for gettin the dates sorted tho.

Would it be fair to ask for opinions and see what the community thinks?

Hey guys,

I don't mean to be picking holes or anything, but having the second event a) the day before Christmas Eve and b) 6 days before the Flesk event makes things really really tricky for a lot of people, not least of all the organisers of the Flesk Riverjam...

I know that having a team picked well in advance is an advantage, but surely it's more important to have the right team? The question someone posed on the other thread about floodlighting is valid, I understand the recent Clifden comp was done under floodlighting, so could something similar be done for January or early Feb?

Just putting the ideas out there, it says these are provisional dates, so surely that means there's room for negotiations?

To be honest there is a lot of controversy involved here but the committee are in the throws of hacking this out. There are lots of options but agreeing on a set plan is hard. The committee have been elected less than 2 weeks and are trying to do the best for the Team. The tides are not something that we can change.

The format has not been set in stone we just put up thoses dates to give people as much notice as possible.

There is flood light options but we are not sure how well this would work in the dark as the only experience at the recent rodeo was in fact in twilight and judging and scirbing might pose problematic in the dark.

There is the option of throwing an event at Curragower into the mix as there is a chance the feature may be a wave.

There is also an option of including the National Championships into the selection process but as of yet the committee havnt fully agreed on the proper course.

Option1 aas it stands 2 events before christmas

option 2. 3 events with gower as 3rd event in january

option 3 2 events at sluice. one event at clifden and The national Champs as in 1 at gower and one more at clifden . This event would mean five events best 3 results would count. and in the event of a tie results from heats would count.

Dont think there any right options pros and cons with all but we have 7 people thrashing out which option to pick and we are trying our best.

We still have to decide ourselves!

Hope this clarifies things but its porbably just confused you all even more.

Hey all again, first off the dates have been chosen, these may not suit everyone myself includeed but we need to pick a team asap so that the commitee can start the ball rollin on training dates etc. The fact that the flesk river jam is on later that month really doesnt mean a thing ie people could have another sporting event or social one HOWEVER its the national team trials so as far as im concerned they are more important than a fun river race. Im not trying to annoy anyone here im just pointing out the facts!!!

See you all at sluice and clifden

ps sluice is kickin ass right now!!!

Why not ask people who want to be considered for the team to come forward and put them on a panel. Train with the whole panel and then choose the teams closer to the competition date based on peoples form before the event as opposed to peoples form before Christmas?

Hey guys. There seems to be 2 threads running on the same topic of the team trials both here and on the banter section both containing valid points.

Maybe Pete could consolidate the two into one thread?

Oisín regarding your suggestion above; the idea of having a squad as opposed to a set team was discussed at the AGM. We subsequently weighed up the pros and cons of such a system at the first committee meeting and decided that having a set team selected based on the team trials was the best way forward. A reserve paddler will be selected for each category in the event of injury of a team member. Reserves will be also be eligible to train at team training sessions and attend team competitions.

We appreciate suggestions from the public and we put forward ideas we think merit discussion at the various committee meetings.

this is going to sound a tad self centered,
Im abroad at the moment and am going change flights to get home for the comps, how definite are these dates, how soon are you going to have a deffinite structure for the team trials? and im going to throw this out there that some students with exams after xmas might need to throw work schedules in to employers for xmas time work.
I was on the commitee aswell and hate posting comments like this, I apreciate the prediciment, but if it is possible for a few definite answers id be most greatful.

it seems it is only that clifden event is causing the problem, why not have an event at sluice at the date suggested and gower in january, to get a squad and then use clifden as the final trial when ever it is an option?

regards

Conor

Indeed the young man speaks sense.

Has the commitee had any further thoughts on the issue or is this it?

Have ye got a list of those interested in competing, it might help make the decision.

Anywho, i'm sure whatevers decided will be for the greater good. Let us know when ye know.

Hi there,

Please find the details for team trials here

http://www.irishfreestyle.com/node/2026

Please keep comments coming on this thread, but please try to avoid posting replys on the actual announcement, this will minimse confusion.

The team trial dates have been picked in order to get a team decided as soon as possible so as team training can begin.

Due to the late notice and some dificult dates for some people there will be 3 events with competitors best 2 results being used to decide the team.

If a competitor is unable to attend an event, the results from the 2 events they have attended will be used.

Please feel free to e-mail the committee or myself at

committee@irishfreestyle.com  competitions@irishfreestyle@irishfreestyle.com

Thank you for your patience.

Regards

Brian

No freestyle trials for over a year eh!?

It always puzzles me how people can complain about having to move around a titchy country like ireland yet be fully available to go to international competition......

Not meant to be inflamitory - I guess there are other ways of doing things but then changing it might satisfy less people.
