Palm Cag's waterproof??

I have a Plam Cag for about 9 months now and i was wondering if there is anything one can treat them with as it does be soaked on the outside after a trip. As for about the first few months it was as dry as a bone. And are certain brands better than others? Are they worth the money??
what are people's thoughts?
thanks

Surely its the inside that matters? But if you want to get the "beeding" quality that most new kit has, you sloud get yourself some "Nikki wax" spray on treatement, this can be got in Great out doors, www.i-canoe.com or www.mdac.ie

Yeh for sure it's the inside but if the outside is kept dry then this surely will keep your warmer?? So i would think both are quite important.  I am compairing mine to someone i went on a trip with and they took several swim's i did a couple of rolls and i was far wetter come the end of trip. The cag does not metion treatment and it's only 9 months old? 200euro?? Get the feeling that they are made in a Chinese Sweatshop??

Cheers thanks for the advice

Sharkteeth,

I'm not entirely sure exactly sure what your cags problem is, I'm guessing the €200 cag you have is the Palm Switch cag which should be pretty good. a few suggestions for you to try...

  • Check for holes/nicks in the fabric/seams, I know this sounds a little obvious and silly but it could be a reason why you are getting wet.
  • If the cag is not ripped I would think might you be wearing far too much clothing under the cag and not allowing the fabric to work/breathed as intended. Ths is quiet a comon issue, I see loads of people putting on enough termals to do them on an artic mission even though they are just blasting down their local run. Then the sweat just condences on the inside of the cag and looks like the cag is letting in.
  • If it is none of the above you can start looking at the fabric its self. How do you look after your kit, do you leave it wet in you bag for days/weeks on end? do you hang it inside out in the daylight(UV) for hours on end. Do you stand on your kit when getting changed in order to keep your feet dry? All this is really comon stuff that boaters do, and then expect there kit to preform like it did on day one.
  • What I would do is get my hands on some Nikwax TX Direct Spray on fabric waterproofer, nikwax spray it only costs about ten bucks, use as directed and it should bring your cag back to life.
  • if nothing I mentioned works you will have a very strong case to return the garment to the shop where you purchassed it and it should be either repaired or replaced.

Hope this is of some use to you.

Happy "Dry" boating

Adrian

I'm sure if i use this waterproofer it should do the job.  I do look after very well no uv, drip dry and do people seriously stand on them!!! No water does get in at all it's just the material itself on the outside the water does not bounce off like when i first got it.  So hopefully this spray shall do the job.

Thanks very much Adrian

Happy days
