Dargle

Hi everyone, a couple of new things on the Dargle.  First the old bridge on the flat section has collapsed and they are rebuilding it, there is scaffolding in the river but no major issues.  The actual wooden bridge itself floated downstream and has lodged itself right across the river on the run-in to the main falls, we portaged the thing but at higher flows it might be feasable to get around it.  This will become a more serious hazard if we get more rain and it moves further downstream to block off the falls entirely.  Also there is a log on the river right side of the S bend helping to keep things interesting.

Peaches.

Hi, paddled the Dargle at the weekend and the bridge is still there on the run into the falls. It hasn't moved since the high water two weeks ago and is well and truely stuck. Is anyone up for trying to move it? Theres plenty of eddies to get into and the bridge is easily portaged but its still poses a danger. I think it'd be worthwhile trying to remove it if possible?...but on the other hand, becasue of the size and weight of the bridge, I'm not even sure if it could be move without a truck or something?

The best way to remove it is with several petrol powered chainsaws and the chain game. If its just hawled to the river bank it could be washed down in the next flood.

I'd say its possible at really low water but would take the whole day.
