The first training session took place last Saturday in Oranmore and all three girls were ready to get stuck in and have lots of fun.

First we met and had a quick chat and the girls filled in a questionaire about their paddling and what they would like to achieve from the training sessions. They all agreed that the main focus should be having fun and learning new moves. The girls were keen on getting on the water as much as possible and were delighted to get started. We then drove to the hole with parents in tow Caroline Farrell and Tom Cleary the ever willing drivers of the freestyle girls. Eoin Farrell also joined us and got on the water too. So we got on the water and I set up the camera so we could analyse the session later. First up was to give the girls a chance to surf the hole and figure it out.

Catching the feature proved tricky at times but this didnt deter the little ladies so they walked around and dropped in a few times. Next we moved onto edge to edge transitions. Now Emer and Caoimhe are able to spin so they started trying clean spins and by the end of the session Emer was nailing them!

Caoimhe was not far behind. Niamh was getting to terms with spinning and was even managing to roll up in the hole when her edge caught. Eoin was nailing super clean spins, cartwheels to the right and Airloops. According to Emer I was doing my best impersonation of Spinsee Dundee ( you know who you are!)

The girls then decided to try for loops and emer was getting plenty of Air and is going to be knocking out the loops pretty soon if she keeps going at this rate.

Towards the end we decided to have plenty of fun and were doing every old school move in the book. I persuaded some of the crew to throw away their paddles and hand surf the hole, Caoimhe got in there straight away with a huge smile on her face. Eoin not to be out done by his little sister was soon to follow however with his dodgy deck this may have ended in tears. His deck kept popping during the session and I think he was none too pleased! Emer and Caoimhe decided to do party hole and Caoimhe showed she had an evil side grabbing her sisters deck and ready to wreak havoc but Emer got away!

Towards the end all 3 girls were getting in and were prettty happy after the session.

So we went and got changed and all the car radios were turned on to catch the end of the Ireland match. We arrived in my house for video analysis and well earned cup of Tea. The crew got on the road not long after this tired and happy after a sucessful training session.
