Team

The Irish freestyle kayaking team is made up of both a Ladies and Mens teams that comprises both seniors and juniors. The team is chosen from selection events which are held up to a year in advance of major international events. The current team is as follows:

Junior Men's K1

They will represent Ireland at the European Freestyle Kayak Championships this summer.

The first official training session for ladies K1 was held last Sunday at the Tuam hole. A cold snowy day with high water levels made for an interesting session. Shane Flaherty was there to offer us helpful advice and constructive coaching in between the ice cream headaches!

For all those competing in Trials just to clarify how things will go.

As previously stated the rules for trials will be european freestyle rules. These rules are variety only and are available for viewing in the resources section of this website here.

Sluice: As we are under less time constraints we will be running heats and super finals at this event.

Team Trials - European Freestyle Championships 2008

After taking into consideration the reponses from the community with regards the provisional Team Trail events the committee have decided on the below the process for the selection of the Irish National Team for the 2008 European Freestyle Championships.

Team Size:

  • K1 Surface Mens - 5
  • K1 Surface Womens - 3
  • K1 Surface Junior Men - 4
  • K1 Surface Junior Women - 3
  • 1 reserve per category

Selection Events:

  • Event 1 – Sluice, Dublin – December 15/16th
  • Event 2 – Clifden, Galway – December 22/23rd
  • Event 3 – Curragower, Limerick – January 12/13th

Each competitor's best 2 event results will be counted.



Provisional Dates for Team Trials - Galicia

Location 1: Sluice

Date: Sat 15th and Sun 16th Dec 2007

Location 2: Clifden

Date: Sat 22nd and Sun 23rd Dec 2007

For those paddlers interested in competing in Team Trials for the European Freestyle Championship 2008 the second selection event will take place in Clifden on Sat 22nd and Sun 23rd Dec 2007.

Check-in will be in School Car Park at 12.15. It is expected that the competition will start at 13.15. Current European Rules will apply (without technical scoring). The entry for all team selections is €30.

Each competitor must be a registered member of the ICU or Freestle Club. Membership can be purchased at each event for €10.
